Sashiko
Sashiko has a rich history in Japan, where it has been practised for centuries. Originating through necessity, it was a method developed to stitch layers of woven cloth together for warmth. Regional variations and patterns developed and the art form is now a highly prized form of decorative embroidery. This one day workshop will include:
- How to work the Sashiko running stitch, consistently and evenly
- How to mark up Sashiko patterns and designs
- How to stitch the varied patterns
- All the important hints and tips you would expect from my workshops
This will be a relaxing day of hand stitching where you will have access to my own designs and patterns for small projects. Or simply make samples of the individual Sashiko designs to incorporate into a larger project such as a sampler.
