Introduction to Goldwork
Goldwork is a heritage embroidery technique using metal threads and wires that has been practiced for centuries. The technique has seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years and is now available with a vast array of heritage and modern materials. This introductory workshop aims to cover all the basic techniques to help you get started with this wonderful craft. You will make the image shown, which can be mounted in a frame or made into a needlecase. The workshop includes:
- Understanding the different metal threads and how these are used
- How to transfer goldwork designs to your fabric
- How to apply kid leather
- How to “plunge” your metal wires to the reverse to secure your work
- Understanding the order of work required for successful goldwork
You will need to bring a small selection of goldwork supplies and details will be provided prior to the workshop (not all of the items shown!) Small kits may be available subject to availability
