Crewel Embroidery
Crewel embroidery, also known as Jacobean embroidery, has been practiced for centuries and remains a beautiful and practical craft used to adorn clothing, bags, boxes and much more. Working with traditional crewel wool thread this two day workshop will include:
- Outline stitches
- Filling stitches for both large and small sections
- Stitch combinations
- Thread painting for shading and colour blending
- Textured stitches including raised and padded stitch areas
My design is made p of a quarter design which can be repeated to make up a pattern. You can choose to use the same stitches in each section for a repeated pattern or experiment with different stitches in each of the 4 sections. Examples will be provided for you to pick and choose to focus on the stitches that appeal to you.
Once completed, the project could be used as a cushion, bag panel or a framed piece of embroidery.
